I am with Sindy, I don't think it looks bad at all! It does kind of fill a void over there, give it a little time, and if you don't like you can turn into a Bling Bling chain...D'OH!

I used 3M double sided tape to attach mine incase I didn't like it. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldnt shave them down either. If you attempt to shave them down, you could mess up and have uneven thickness. Making it look worse. I do think it looks great.
I also think that if you to embed the HHR into the airbag cover by using a hot Brand Iron, it would be sweet. Little more skill involved in that one though.

To reply to someone saying why would you take badges off the outside of a car and put them on the inside of the car.
Shaving the outside is entirely differet than the inside. A car is all about flow. Outside you want clean sweeping lines with no obstructions. Inside you want sweeping lines aswell. Adding badging to the insde of the car does not disrupt this. Now the only way this would disrupt the flow is if you were to shave the inside of the car entirely. No door handles, no switches, no radio, no pockets, etc. Its just not practicle.

That's a personal opinion, I strongly disagree.

I'm liking the Badge thing, I was wondering what I was going to do with mine...I debadged while I was removing the dealer sticker...What are these goofs thinkin' a sticker bigger than the badges on my rear door, they didn't seriously think that I would leave it there!!!

I have debaged my HHR allready. Did this within 24 hours of ownership. My reasoning is more for when someone looks over at it, they wonder what the heck it is! I have yet to deal with the wheel/rim bowties, stearing wheel center cap, rear liftgate and grill is in the works (of removing the bowtie).

A billet grille takes care of half the problem.
