Yep, take a piece of rubber or heavy leather, pad the channel locks & wind them off..I did & no damage, cut the stems/studs & put the stock knobs back on.. All set...

PS: Very Coarse thread.

N/P Just be careful winding the plastic knobs back on.. Easy to strip the plastic threads..

I cut my stocks down before but still wasn't satisfied with it.

Picked up a set of stubby door lock knobs from GDZHHR
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/deleted-threads-41/bunch-stuff-sale-32305/

Here's a comparo of the stubby, stock size, the cut down size I had on the front doors.

Stock rear

Stubby rear - unlocked

Locked

Due to cutting down my fronts so much I put them on a bit too tight and when I locked it, poof, it disapprears...

Didn't like that so I spun it off a bit

front doors - unlocked

locked

I left our stock. Kinda like the idea of being able to reach the knob to lift it in case I need to. Don't know anything about the thing being in the way of your arm. I never ride with the windows down and my arm out the window. One of the curses of having long hair I guess...

I may have posted previously on this, but I found the door lock knobs obtrusive as I reached out the window at any drive thru.

Songman- I stlll have long hair too. mostly gray, as is my beard, but long none the less...

Still wouldn't notice... I don't do drive-thrus either. They NEVER get my order right! haha

I know about the gray! It is starting to sneak in there on me too! I blame it on my wife because it wasn't there till I married her! She just tells me that I am getting old...

I just purchased a set of billet lock knobs and trim bezels made for late model Mustangs. The Mustang lock knobs are the same diameter (5/16" I believe), but I think they are a little shorter than the stock HHR ones. Also, I'm not sure if the threads are the same, but this is nothing a little silicone or glue won't fix. The bezels will probably need cut down, but they are the only ones I have seen (besides the expensive Mercedes' ones) that will fit the contours of the HHR's door panel. I will post some pics once I get them installed...should look pretty sporty!
