EL strip

I had my gauge cluster out today because I was going to swap the LEDs but decided against it at last minute. While it was out and open I figured what the hell I might as well do something so I added an EL strip to the inside of the gauge cluster behind the plastic shinning on the gauges from above. It's aqua just like the gauges so it matches pretty good. I used my phones camera so the pics might suck.

It is connected to one of those music sensor boxes so if I want it to pulse to the beat I have the option. I haven't hardwired it yet so I ran the wire through the dash and along the center console so I can plug it in the rear plug. The control box sits in the little square slot of the center console for now.

I like it! Nice touch.

Average speed 26? You need to get out on the highway.

Hey......that's how I roll. Highway does little help for me. The most I'm on it is like 5 or 10 minutes at a time. All the stop and go I do kills my MPG and average speed. The one thing I can say about the EL strip is that it makes it easier to see the gauges. The sound activated option is pretty useless with all the bass. It just makes glow like an old school florescent bulb that's starter is burning out.

Nice job......I think it's kinda cute. Actually, it sort of goes along with the skulls and mask things.

I like it. Someday I'm gonna pull mine all apart and do things on the inside.

BTW - 19 months old, she has 10,100 mile on her.

It's pretty easy to get the gauge cluster apart. A couple screws, a couple bolts, and a bunch of clips.

Cool, but wouldn't be good for me. I have my instrument cluster lights turned down as low as they'll go.

That would be en0oNmAI. Blue with red needles. That was my plan but the LEDs I bought were wrong. I bought 50 blue and 10 red 5MM LEDs assuming they would use the same LEDs as the headlined. They used little flat soldered in LEDs instead. I still could have changed their color but I figured screw it, I would add one of El strips I had laying around instead. I already had the gauge cluster out and open so I had to do something.
