thats why i did hers you all know the problem with the gold and when water seeps down thats why i did hers also there is no gold at all like almost all the other companys the only problem is how long it takes to do them

 

I have done mine twice, but I wasnt happy with it. Using the wet technique and heated stretching seemed to weaken the adhesive, so it didnt stick well on the inside corners. Also the vinyl seemed to shrink back from the edges after a couple days, pulling up the inside corners even more.
Could it just be the vinyl Im using? Did yours still look good after a couple days?

 

these i just put on and i use a good vinyl.

sofar there is no shrinking on the inside corners or peeling up

i will post more on these in about a week or so

mind you i live on a gravel road so its harsher and im putting it to a test lol

the shrinking could have been due to calendared VS cast vinyl. Can't remember which one it is off the top of my head (google it) and one will shrink because it is trying to go back into it's original shape and form.

I don't know what the black i did mine with was, free from the auto graphic shop i stopped by, but it hasn't shrank in the heat and cold for over a year.

 

Thanks for the info. A quick google says calendared vinyl is cheaper, thicker, harder to form, and may shrink. Cast vinyl is the good stuff.
I probably got the cheap stuff, ah the perils of ebay.

 

I did mine twistermans way and it looks awsome. Only regret is that I did not do it sooner. I went to a local sign place and paid $3 for 14"x14" piece. Have plenty left over for something

I gotta redo my one, so i'll take some photos of the process. Maybe this weekend, gotta wash the car, it's filthy.

For the person making the overlays, what is the point of having it cut out in the chevy shape first? It seems like it would be really hard to line it up exactly. It just seems easier to just do it in a rectangular shape that is slightly larger, and then trim it once it is on with a blade?

 

I cut out a rectangular piece of vinyl when I did mine and it worked out a LOT better than trying to cut out the bowtie shape and get it on there straight

 

mine is bigger then the actual bowtie and making the cut actually is easier to mold it to the shape then it is to use a rectangle

 

I did mine with a rectangle about 1/2" larger than the bowtie. Applied dry from the center of the bow and smoothed slowly outward to the edges using the excess vinyl to pull outward as you lay the vinyl down thus preventing bubbles or wrinkles. Once the top surface is down I again used the excess vinyl to pull it over the edges of the bow and tuck it into the corners. The vinyl can be manipulated pretty good this way and once it is all smooth and tucked in you just trim around the bottom of the bow. The gold has a gap between it and the chrome for a cutting guide.
