Front door window tint
I had an appointment to get mine done last week but I got sick and could not get to the shop .... He has done all my cars and only charges like $45.00 to do the fronts... In Tx the installer has put some sort of sticker under the tint that makes it DOT legal.. If the installer get caught putting the DOT sticker on illegal tint he will get fined....
this is true but its also false and misleading according to the DPS troopers who over the years have stopped me in several cars ive had...
i got my H done with all 35% all around and its pretty dark...anyways cruising to san antonio, a TXDPS skunk pulled me over and told me that my rears were WAY too dark and the fronts were OK... so he tells me that certain year cars can only have 30 light penetration with some meter they have, and i said well the state requires you to be in compliance to get an inspection sticker, so any truck/suv needs to have side mirrors if the rears are very dark...
what he tells me... the STATE law and the TRAFFIC law are different..i was like WTF how can they be diff if they both come from the state of TX? he didnt really have an answer to that; anyways the DPS traffic law says no cars can have the tint so dark blah blah (whats up there), but the state trafficv law says that as long as you have rear side view mirrors its ok...so wtf? how dumb huh they like offset themselves dont they? well he gave me a warning..anyways if they did give me a ticket, at least my iunsurance car says "sport van" which i can argue is a small SUV
about the DOT sticker... again from my experiences with out fine DPS troopers... even with that sticker it doesnt make it legal no matter what, becasue it is up to the driver/owner of the car to make sure its in compliance..i had an older camaro an 86, and that was the cutoff yr to get any shade tint you wanted, so i think i had 20on all windows, i argued with the trooper that it was legal and i even had the sticker on the windows, still didnt mater...went to court and showed that my car was an 86 and the judge said thats the law and thru out the case...so just cuz u have the sticker doesnt mean anything...
check your state laws
Hey El-rey....
Help me out on this. Are you saying that the Texas DPS has a separate "book" of traffic laws than Texas State ( or for that matter, all other law enforcement agencies in the state) has in traffic laws?? That is incredible. All the Highway/State Police/Patrol that I know of, use their respective states laws. That just does not sound correct. Does your state have a written drivers test, and whose "laws" do they use? That could be terribly confusing.

For a good example of what 20% would look like on Daytona Blue I refer you to my gallery where you can see Dory. Her windows have been treated with 20% tint.

it is confusing, thats why when i told him that im in compliance with the law in order to get my inspection sticker, thats when he said its not the same law; the troopers and the inspection things use different laws...
and i know this is true, because i asked the police lt. here in town, a good family friend and he said its 2 different laws..and they seem to contradict each other...
i was suprized myself
I went with 35% on the front. I have no problems seeing out in the dark. I live in a very rural area with very few streetlights, and seeing out is more important to me than looking cool and feeling unsafe.
I wouldn't feel comfortable about buying tint off of ebay though. With tint you get what you pay for.....Then your tint is guaranteed to stay black for life rather than fading or turning purple after a couple of years. It is also shatter resistant, has maximum heat and glare reduction, and blocks 99% of UV rays.
jx3,
I hope you don't mind me posting a pic of your ride, but I like the way the front windows match the rest of the car.

According to this listing, they seem to have good tint. The thing that I like is that it's precut. All I have to do is peel and stick.
It could be LLumar, LLumar UVShield, LLumar SUVShield, Gila Ultrashield, Gila Heat Reflective, Gila Scratch Resistant, Gila Xtreme Limo, Gila Xtreme color, Gila Xtreme mirror, Gila Static Cling, FormulaOne Classic Series, FormulaOne Comfort Series, FormulaOne Premier Series, FormulaOne Ultimate Series, FormulaOne Pinnacle Series, or FormulaOne UV Shield.
Now I am getting concerned. I just bought a roll on sale for $4.99. It is light gray and when I held it over the window looked pretty close to the way the back windows look. The windows are small and pretty flat so I figured it would be easy to pop on. I had no idea there were so many types and grades of tint, or that some would fade.
Once again, CH is right on the money. I paid about $75 to have my tint put on, and that comes with a lifetime warranty. The cheap tint will turn purple, fade, and will have bubbles eventually. I figured it was worth the money to have a quality tint with a lifetime warranty, rather than a tint that will only last a short time. Just my
