Got my first scratch have questions.

Well after driving a Tahoe the transition to the SS was not bad, however I had never given consideration to curb height until today. I went to the store with the wife and kids and it was pouring rain so I parked at the end of the row and swung my door open in a hurry and BLAM!!!!. I smacked the curb with the bottom corner of the drivers door. This took all the paint and such off at the corner all the way down to bare metal. OK I know bare metal ='s bad. I dont want to spend the money for a bodyshop because it is barely noticable when the door is closed due to the way the door curves into the body kit. However I want to repair this to prevent corrosion at that spot.

I need some tips on repairing this to protect the exposed metal.

Thanks,

SPPD

That sucks, sorry about that. Did you get touch up paint when you purchased your HHR? If not it should be about $12 at the dealership. One side has paint (you have to shake it till the little ball stops, like a spray can) and paint what you want. Let it sit for about 10 minutes or so and then on the other side of the pen would be your clear coat. Let that sit for a few then you should be good to go.

Thanks I will do that. Was I supposed to get touch-up paint when I got my car? Do I just get this from the dealer parts counter? I get an employee discount from my Mom so I guess I will swing by the dealer next week.

Yes! Atleast at my dealership it's added to EVERY car. It is available at the parts counter. Locate your doorjamb for: PAINT CODE

I didn't get a bottle of that "nail polish" touch up paint with my new car.

I found one at autozone though, GM Vred. it's perfect. It wasn't that expensive either.

Free with the car?!
Are you kidding?!

I just bought some at my dealer last week! Wasn't bad--about $12, but sheesh, I certainly didn't get it with the car...

Considering what a great deal I got, I guess I shouldn't complain...

Sorry about the scratches--I have 2 pretty gnarly dings--the one on the passenger side door goes down to the white, but you can only see it if you are looking for it...

things happens and I don't freak about it.

I've always had to pay for Touch-up Paint and i've never gotten the 2 sided pen either. I guess its up to dealer, however it should be included considering you always end up finding a rock or other object with-in the first week. Its like the "Break-In" period on a new car.

Well, it stops rattling when you stop shaking it.
