Heat sheild tranformation?
Heat sheild tranformation?
Dabbling with the idea of having my stereo shop or me cut a underhood heat sheild in polished stainless steel w/ a tranformer logo probably in the center so it matches my polished engine parts.
I know they make a whole underhood stainless piece but i'm not into that
look.
anyone done this ideas?

OK Jeff, my senility is really kicking in this weekend, when I first read this I thought "why does he want to do that to the heat shield, is he planning on running over someone?", then it hit me...the underhood heat shield not the exhaust heat shield.....Doh!
There are actually some Nice looking Frosted or Etched Vinyls you can get at a Sign Shop and have them cut out Any design you want, then just stick it on.
Tons of specialty Vinyls you can choose from for some pretty awsome effects.
Removable so you can change it up every now and then.
It would give you the Look of a frosted or etched glass piece.
I have the Polished underhood pieces and was planning on cutting out a design sooner or later. I was thinking of cutting a "Rat Fink" for mine.
I have the vinyl plotters/cutters so it's just a matter of creating the Vector file design I have in mind one day.
OR, you could get the design cut out in blasting media, sign shops can cut it, then have the piece actually sandblasted in. You can Blast different air pressures and distances to give it different effects. Varying shades of frost in the design.
Alot of Sign Shops use Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, or Flexi Sign Pro Software, if you have Corel Draw (least expensive option) you can design it yourself and just have the shop cut it for you, saving the Design Fee.
Or are you meaning actually Cutting out the transformer Logo in Polished Stainless Steel and mounting that underhood?
If so find a shop with a Waterjet cutter, like seen on American Chopper.
It will cut it without distortion or discoloration that a plasma cutter would cause.

Love all your ideas! I have a friend in japan that sent me a sticker of a transformer that can only be found or bought there i love it! i was going to have it enlarged and stick it in the center of the stainless steel plate.
I was thinking about the etched idea but thought the vinyl would fade or fall apart from the heat of being under the hood, probably cant afford most of the other ideas blasting ect...
thanks for all the input!
