Ice morning

So, your driving to work this morning about 6:00 a.m. and it is a little snowy, and icey, but youv'e drove in this weather before. No problems.

Whoa, look out, crash.............right into a crub. Not a big deal, no body damage, just a little wheel scrape.

Heck doesnt' even look that bad, especially in the photo, but wait till you drive home....... somethng isn't right........... did it always have that rubbing sound? Call insurance find out what to do, go to the dealer cause it only has 7,000 miles on her. Come to find out you ruined a wheel bearing, slammed the curb hard enough it flat spotted your bearings and they will have to be replaced. Only on the newer vehicles they decided up their in the big wig place to make the wheel hub and bearings all one piece, in their infinite wisdom. Now rather then just maybe $50 for some new bearings and grease, it will cost $350 for the new hub assembly Oh, well could have been worse, seems the four wheel drive trucks run somewhere around 8 to 9 hundred. Now you find out that is will cost $480 for labor included, but you have a $500 deductable.

Oh yeah, still comin. That yellow has to look hot though with the blue. I priced a new rim too, but I will either find one on e-bay or go the aftermarket route for that kind of money.

Not that bad, the hubs for my Ram were $180 apiece (non ABS, the ABS ones are about $300), but then I fit three pairs... The ones for my Saab were interesting, they were double row ball bearings, Looked just like an ordinary ball bearing but much bigger. It was the CV joints on that were $360 each, the wheel bearings had to be replaced at the same time, at about $100 apiece.

I understand the whole need to advance our way of life and make things better, but this is another thing that takes away from some of the everyday mechanic and some peoples price range.

My daughter found the Rims much cheaper but they are recondition Rims for about $115.00 ea. Not bad for the price and the Rims looked very nice.

I was thinking of going that route, but I gotta decide what I want now. Stick with the stock(boring) or go with some aftermarket ones(sweet). Have to see how much I want to spend though. All in all though 115.00 doesn't sound bad, better then 600.00 from the dealer
