I was looking closely at the SS Panel on the Power Tour, and the dash has been done in leather. I asked the GM guys about the passenger airbag and they told me it is functional, but they don't know how it was covered in the red leather to match the rest of the dash or how recovering it changes the operation of the bag. I'd love to upholster my dash, but don't know what to do with the airbag since anything done to it would change its operation. They didn't know who did the work, how it was done, etc, just that they were told it was still functional. Anyone here knowledgeable about airbags? I know how to remove/replace, nothing beyond that. I'll try to post a couple pics when I get to a place that has a better connection.

 

Can't you just make the AB cover one piece of whatever material you choose and the rest another and then they wouldn't be connected... Would that work?

There would be a gap but it should still function.

 

The airbag deploys from an area about an inch up from the edge, and to cover it would require covering that area. Even wrapping it would change the way the bag would deploy? I don't know. I was told even painting it can change the way the bag operates.
