There is a plastic retainer clip on the backside of the light for non sunroof HHR's. I had to take the retainer clip off to get mine off during painting of the headliner and headliner "plastics". Can upload some pictures when I get home from work if needed.

I have this LED cover as well and I broke it off. Then i changed the White LED to a $2.00 one from radio shack. I broke off the rest of the bent plastic on the LED cover and stuck it back into the hole in the headliner. It is still there and has not fallen out yet.
