A little sheet metal help
While I was down at the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona, FL I found the hood ornament I was looking for. Before I go drilling holes into the hood is there any kind of prep work or sealant I should use afterwards to prevent rusting?

I didn't think to ask that.....I'm still looking for a good Hood Ornament, do you have pics of yours.... or you gonna make us wait for the install :)
P.S. When I do get one , I was going to use the 3M tape and line the bottom of the hood ornament, sorta as a sealer...

First after you drill blow the shavings off the car. There is a metal prep that alot of shops use to coat exposed metal (can't remember what its called right now, will get back to you), or you can get touch up paint and touch up the metal around where you drill and let it dry before installing the emblem. then you can use 3-m strip caulk (dum-dum) or a similar product to seal. Like some one else said don't use silicone.

I've been holding onto the idea for a long time so, you all will have to wait just a little longer til I get it installed and can post pics. This #1 on my to-do list for the weekend.

Well, I mocked-up the hood ornament this morning to see how well it was going to fit and realized I had a problem. I will need a custom made mount for it to fit flush. But, here are some pics I took, what do you all think about it and any suggestions where I could get a mount made?

Nick, I like it! When I put mine on I used a black rubber sealant from Home Depot. Comes in a little tube. Be very causious when tightening down because of the space between the hood and the metal plating attached under the hood. If you can fiquire out a way to get spacers in there you might be better off. What ever you do, do not over tighten because the hood metal is very thin.
