From another member that painted, took out the amber lense and put in a HID headlight:

I say this beacause our local car club has done SEVERAL pairs of STOCK cobalt headlamps and have gotten REALLY good at doing the painted headlamp housings. Almost all edges of the headlamp housing on the HHR's headlights are cracked or broken. Sealed back up with a combination superglue, silicone, and something else we had (cant remember the name). So, the stock headlights are held together with a VERY strong black substance. We tried the oven approach, hot water approach, and even a heat gun.

I did the Black LED tail-light set on my 2008 Black HHR 1LT.

Very simple installation.

I used the following:
- Old blanket to protect rear bumper
- Flathead screw driver to open rear accessory panel
- LED flash light to see inside panel
- Knife to remove any excessive molding bur from new tail-light
- 10mm Deep Socket (directions say 8mm however my 2008 was indeed 10mm)
Pro Tip: If you don’t a have metric socket set, check the fit on the nut from the hardware store parking lot. This will save you a trip back to the store to return incase it’s the wrong size. Also the nut washers are attached to the nuts.

The only unique thing to me was that the Upper and Lower LED lights have a plug to connect them together electrically which is not present on the Stock lights.
