Need "How to" on removing rocker panels.

I would like to install running boards on my 2008 HHR Lt1. I have read "Installing running boards from a woman's viewpoint!" and highly commend the author for her pictures and detailed text. However I looked under the side of the car and there is one screw in each of the front and rear wheel wells attached to the rocker panels and the front splash guards I installed some time ago are mounted on the bottom to the rocker panel. Would anyone know where I can get step by step instructions how to remove the rocker panels to get access to the bolts for the mounting brackets to attach the running boards? All I have found in researching this project is that the running boards are easy and the rocker panels........not so much! Thanks in advance for any information you may have to contribute.
