Smile Painted CGS intake

After being inspired by Mike, I pulled my CGS and painted it to match my HHR. I sprayed a light coat of Daytona Blue over the original silver and came up with a very nice color. At this point I've decided not to clear coat the the intake, being on the motor, I like the satin finish of just the base coat, it almost looks powder coated. This was an easy mod so I might go back and add a shiny coat of clear later but I'm very happy with the look I've achieved.

I just took mine off. It's ready, however, I'm going to wait to see what SoCalHHR has to say about it.
It looks hot and all that, but once I got to thinking about it, there might be a reason not to use just regular pant. I just don't want to mess up a great looking item.
I have factory Chevy paint that I want to use. When it comes to this stuff, I'm ultra conservative. I just don't want to mess any thing up.

Hey Sindy - regular paint is fine. Just make sure you sand the intake completely (scuff everywhere), before painting. The intake only gets up to 230-degrees max usually. Regular body paint should be good up to 300-degrees or so.

Have fun!

I would run your stocker for a couple of days to be sure the paint has cured. - Then you'll appreciate the CGS that much more after you reinstall it!

I have a "mui especial" paint job planned for mine!
Here's his reply from another thread.

I did it just like Mike described. Decal came off easy. I used an 800 grit paper and wet sanded the original finish, only took a few minutes of prep for a nice smooth surface and it was ready to paint.
