Rear door guards?

Recently, I saw a new HHR with what looked like protective "pads" on the rear fender bulge of the rear doors. It was black and the pads were matching black.

Has anyone seen these? What are they?

They are to protect that area from paint damage caused by stuff thrown up by the front tires.

I have seen these many, many times. I think they are plastic or something. I think for the most part these are added to HHRs without running boards, but I have seen them on a couple with running boards also.

Anyone have Part #'s for these? The Thicker ones.

I had an Idea for them, like Vintage cars used to use wide Stainless Steel pieces seen here on this Sedan Delivery.

I want to Cover them in Chrome and install on my Black Panel.

I had these replaced under warranty because one winter of driving without running boards damaged them. I have since added running boards. They're called dog leg covers GM#25791044 and 25791042 and they're clear vinyl. You could also have a vinyl graphics shop make some out of chrome material or make yourself to give the look your after.

He's referring to the early style. They were more pronounced and made of hard plastic.

Gotcha. I didn't know these once came made of hard plastic. So the new HHR you seen Dover must have special ordered theirs. Some made out of SS or chrome diamond plate may be the ticket..

If you are going to own your HHR for many years, don't use the clear ones. I have factory ones on my 23 year old Silverado (original factory finish). They hardened, cracked and now they look like a roadmap with streaks of black where dirt got into the cracks.
