Rear Fender Paint Protection

Even though I have the running boards, I can still hear the sand and salt bouncing off the front of the rear fenders. Has anyone tried the 3M Scotchguard protective film? I wonder how hard it is to apply around those sensuous curves of my little beauty. Any other ideas?

Something I have used in the past and was happy with is clear contact paper for shelving. It comes in large rolls and is cheap, plus the low stick adhesive rarely leaves any residue. A big plus is you can put on a piece for a trip, throw it away when you get there(such as a show),and apply a new piece for the trip home and you`ve only spent? maybe a buck. I used this on my Camaro on two Hot Rod Power Tours and it made daily cleanup much quicker.
