Yes, and think how soft and supple it will feel as their face is smashed in by the airbag. Not to mention they will have a nice cloth to wipe the fear off of their forehead.

the individual piece will be covered, not over the seam around it allowing it to pop out. i dont think it'd hurt it, the fabric wont hold it in place.

The cover is actually made to rip apart when the airbag deploys, it doesn't pop the section out, it comes out like a wrecking ball ! I wouldn't cover it if I were you as the insurance can deny claims due to modifications.
Now, if you make a cover and it is held in place with some Velcro tabs so the airbag can just blow it off as it comes out, that would be like the after market dash pad covers, some are flaps with Velcro tabs to hold the flap down.... just better ideas..
