Getting the old ones off is the hardest part. You will have to break the fastners. Putting on the boards is just a little time consuming.

Time consuming it was indeed. My HHR came from a dealer over a hundred miles away. The salesman I dealt with said it had running boards, one of my "must haves." The car must have been delivered to the original dealer very close to the time I bought it, because the running boards weren't installed yet when I picked it up. (They were still in transit from the original dealer.) The boards showed up the next day, and I brought the car back for the installation.

The salesman said it would take about an hour. An hour later, he tells me it will be another hour and he's out there helping the tech do it. A little over two hours after I dropped it off it's done. The salesman said these were different from the first ones they put in, and there was a lot more work involved than they expected. He didn't get too specific, but he did mention there was some drilling and riveting involved.

I wasn't out there watching them do it, so I don't know if this is a case of Curly and Moe doing the job while Larry was on break, but I doubt it. The dealer has sold a bunch of HHRs and these weren't the first set of boards they installed. If his tale was accurate, later boards take a bit more work than the early ones.
