Running Boards Installed
Running Boards Installed
Got my running boards on today. They sure make a difference in the looks. Took about three hours for the pair. At least 30 minutes of that was trying to get the front bolt on the driver's side started. Had to line it up through my splash guards, the inner fender, and the boards. Just took forever to get it. No problems with the passenger side.
I have about $550 invested in mine. $440 delivered for the boards. and about $100 for paint. I am lucky that I have a friend with a body shop. He spotted me the flex additive, and the clear. All I had to buy was the base coat. Waited till he way painting another car and just mixed up a little extra clear and sprayed them. That Cardinal Red is $90 a pint. He says reds are more expensive, and this red has all those gold flakes in it that makes it even more costly.
Anyway they are on, they match perfectly, and sure do make the car look a lot cooler.

Pics
I'll take some and see if I can figure out how to post them.
I think I am through with the car now. When Obama helped me buy it in July, it was a base LS with auto tranny and start. Since, I have added a chrome grille, chrome door handle covers, aftermarket chrome wheels, splash guards, and now the running boards. Also chrome roof rails. Maybe a stubby antenna, but I think that is it. I was next to my car's twin at a stoplight yesterday, and conceitedly had to notice how much sharper my car looked than theirs. Theirs was what mine orginally looked like. Of course if I was actually talking to them I would NEVER say that.
My body shop friend was amazed how much gold metal flake the cardinal red has in it.

Pictures
Ok, I am not smart enough to add the pictures to this post. They are in the member's gallery under Ponyman1.
Started as a base LS with ebony interior. Additions are GM chrome roof rails, window vent visors, bug deflector, GM chrome grille, chrome door handle covers, GM rear bumper protection pad, GM splash guards, aftermarket chrome wheels, and GM running boards.
I thought I was through, but I will probably add a stubby antenna, and I found a fog light kit on e-bay that is made specificially for the HHR. They are a direct fit like the OEM lights. The kit comes with two lights and bulbs, and a wiring harness that includes a relay, fuse, and switch. Suposed to be a plug and play harness. Might add that aftert Christmas when things calm down.

Thanks
Glad not everyone is not computer illiterate like me. By the way, the spots under the car are water, not oil. I had just washed it and water was still dripping off the undercarriage.
I didn't mind adding some bling to it since I got it so cheap. Best deal I ever got on a new car. After the GM supplier discount, $3500 of GM rebates, C for C $4500 rebate, and $1000 GM Card rebate, it ended up costing me $9700. Also helped that it had been traded among various dealers and had been on their lots for almost a year and missed two price increases.
