Well cuz you said you only paid like $150 for them, and that is alot less than what a gm dealer wants for them. So I wanted to know, so I might be able to get a set.

My '06 showed a lot of sandblasting damage in the first 4000 miles. My dealer wanted $650 to install boards. After some negotiation I got the installed, and the free GM one-time paint job, for $300 plus tax. (I left the stock stone guards on). When we bought my wife's '07 you bet I got one with running boards already installed.

I could outline some good advice for this.

1. Be polite. (even if you have smoke blasting out your ears!)

2. Keep contacting your dealer, (insert step 1. here)

3. Even if you are overloaded with hate and disgust with lots of smoke blasting out your ears, keep your cool and insert step 1. here)

4. Keep in mind that most likely (US customers mostly) you will get told they will not give you free running boards. you get overloaded with hate and disgust with lots of smoke blasting out your ears, keep your cool and insert step 1. here) Work out the best deal you can with the dealer for running boards and they should with the TSB repair your fenders for free.

5. Remember being polite gets you further with the dealer and he may help you work with the Area Rep.

Good Luck

Earlier in the week I decided I was going to install my boards this weekend. That was until I saw the forecast.
4 days off and not able to work on the HHR Guess I'll have to study instead
Don't assume that online sites are going to give you the best deal. The GM dealer in Kemptville has prices that match or beat the US prices most of the time.

Don't assume that the dealer will give you a break, either. The same dealer who wanted to charge me $650 to put running boards on my brand new '06 (we negotiated to $300) tried to charge me $650 to put them on a '07 he had on his lot a few weeks ago. I didn't even start negotiating this time -- I went to another dealer!

I was at the shop that working on my car today and a guy was picking up his 1947 Ford much like the one in the pic below, sorry no camera. and guess what it has on the front on the rear fender wells? Yup, pads much like what are on the HHR w/o running boards!

I guess this isn't a design flaw as much as common to the design. i guess if you have a retro design, you'll have retro problems!!

Thanks for posting that picture, Mike. I've been trying to get people to understand that for the better part of the last year!
