Dumb question(s)... but were there any bushings replaced to stiffin'-up the throw? Replaced the OEM shifter in my '95 Mustang GT to a short-throw (one complete billit unit) with over-throw stops, etc... and it WAS AWESOME! Assuming this wouldn't provide the same results, plus I'm 6'1". Stock height isnt too much of a concern for me. BUT-
HOW DO YOU GET THE OEM 1/2-Chrome dome handle off the shifter(threaded?)? I've twisted a little... didn't want to go crazy on it for fear it's left-hand threaded or if there's a retaining set-screw or something.
Any heads up would be appreciated! Wondering if I can find a shorter shifter HANDLE? Also curious if the handle should be weighted or not!?!?!

CJ... help a brutha out!!! <BUMP>
Curious if your new handle is 'shorter' (than the stocker) AND if either (stock or Hurst) is weighted (see my previous post above). I've had problems with a non-weighted knob on my Mustang GT in the past.
Also- to ANYONE that's removed the shifter/center console... is the shift boot 'welded' (via melted plastic or glue) to the trim in any fashion or would it be easy enough to swap out??? I'm searching for a (specific) color boot but haven't had the time to rip some panels out.
Thanks in advance

I'll say that the shift boot trim pops out really easily I had an antenna wire run through there for an XM install before I rerouted it for a permanent install...I can't remember wether it was 'welded' or what....just pull gently from the rear side up and it should pop out...

Okay, i know that short is faster and all, but bare with me here. I am thinking of going retro with my ride. One of the things that I was wanting to do was to fabricate a Ginny shifter. Those of you who have experience with OLD!!!! hot rods will know what I am talking about. Back in the day (actually in my father's prime) the hot rodders put really long shifters in their cars. Some of them would nearly reach the roof. I don't want to go that high, but I thought it would be a nice touch. I would require more technical skill than I think I have.....any ideas??

My idea is please don't do it! They are really cool on an old rat rod but it would look really bad on the HHR. But then again it's you vehicle and that's just my opinion.

HHR213-
Well-- can't say that I've ever seen that in an HHR ... and can't say that'd I'd like (or dislike) it until I see it!!!
I'd assume you'd need to use a really light (aluminum, or similar), threaded shaft to mate to and extend the height of the stock shifter (solid or thick-walled). That is unless you have the resource to machine a *brand new* solid piece - which many of us (unfortunatley) don't have.
I'd say it's obvious that any further extension of the shifter arm will block some of your controls (e.g. fan speed, heat/air, radio?) but- I'm sure you can live with it if it's the look your after. What I'm not sure of is you'd need to incorporate a bend in it anywhere. One things for sure - I'm guessing it'd move around a lot!
I'm interested in shortening the handle for sake of 'throw' to 2nd and 4th (arm rest gets in the way and I have to do a 'touch the fingertips to the elbow' manuver to complete the shift (not very comfortable). I could give a rip about shortening for 'racing' (Sheesh!).
POST PIC's IF YOUR IDEA BECOMES REALITY!!!! It'd be cool to see - especially if you can disassemble back to stock in no time!

If I do decide to do it, I will do a mock up first to see how it looks. Yes, it would have to be easily returned to stock for ergonomics. If I do it, i will definitely do pics.......unless it is hideous!! That's all on the back burner until I move into the new house.
