Burning out quickly is a common complaint about the SilverStars.
Some say the GE Nighthawks last longer.

I must be weird....I've had 'em in my Yukon for a few years now, even survived me rear-ending another vehicle. Had 'em in the HHR now since october w/no issues.

To alleviate the burn out problem, always where clean oil free gloves when handling the bulbs. Oil from your skin or from the car itself can cause hot spots on the bulb which will cause them to break, then burn out. I use the little cotton gloves that come with some Franklin Mint model cars.

Good tip but in my case it was not the problem. We used the same kind of gloves to clean our Swarovski crystal

Also it is a pain getting the headlights in..well at least it was for me on the passenger side...I am very right handed so it was a bit of fumbling with the left hand trying to seat the headlight and manage the wires etc....so far so good...they don't make it all that easy! I knocked the bulb a bit trying to get it in

LED Replacement Bulbs...

Has anyone seen LED Replacement bulps for the HHR. They last forever and are good for the rear lights, etc. The truckers are starting to use them, and I have seen some websites carrying replacement blubs. I purchased a few here for at home, and a 40 watt bulb burns 2 watts. Here is a website for reference.

I would think about it, but after having to open five windows to identify the correct bulb, cross reference to their part number, select the potential LED, look up the specs, click on buy now and have it STILL bring up a generic page... I don't care how nice these may be, I'm not doing it because their site is a pain and I have zero confidence in actually getting the right parts with all the referencing!

My drivers side Silverstar crapped the bed this morning. Had it in there since the end of July....not very good having it die in 3 months! Will replace it ONCE today..if it or the other one goes I will put the OEM's back in or maybe the GE Nighthawks(if they even make our weird bulb)

Normally I wouldn't care but because changing a headlight is such a PITA on the HHR I'm a bit pissed after only 3 months
