Anyone got pictures of this install and effort required?

*edit* Oops Sindy is correct, my mind is elsewhere.

I don't have pictures handy since I am at work, but you can do the following (it really is very simple):

1) Take a pair of pliers, wrap a small piece of cloth around the jaws as not to damage the original lock (unless you don't care about them)

2) Twist (I believe counterclock wise) while pulling up. (No you do not need to take the door panel off if you do not wish.

3) Carefully cut however much of the metal rod that the plastic lock caps would go on. (A good pair of wire cutters or hack saw will do. I used a Roto-zip with metal cutting blade)

4) Apply a decent amount of Silicon to the inside of the Stubbies and mount them to the rod. Make sure to let them sit for several hours until the Silicon dries fully for a secure hold.

When you buy these from SoCalHHRs.com, they come with a set of install instructions. From what users say, it's not a complicated thing to do but is a tad bit more involved than a simple unscrew the old and on with the new.
That link doesnt show how to do the install though.

quickie

A pair of pliers to grip the old lock so you can unscrew them, a hacksaw or dremel to cut off the extra length off the rod, a tube of silicone cement and you have the most worthwhile modification you can make. 15 minutes of effort is all it takes.

I installed them front and back, my first mod, and didn't do any cutting. I've been VERY happy!

That's the beauty of our kit; you can install them flush (with cutting), or as Mike did above, depending on your preference!

I haven't tried it on the HHR...but doesn't Open Door = Unlock?
All the other cars I've dealt with that has power locks have this feature.

If you mean the doors unlock when you open them from the inside, not on mine. You have to unlock them to open them from the inside, but they way they unlock can be set-up in different way:
  • all unlock when put in park,
  • driver's only unlocks when put in park,
  • all unlock when ignition turned off
  • driver's only unlock when ignition turned off
This, and other options, are are changed through the DIC.
