Stone guards

I'm needing something to put on my HHRs rear fenders that will protect it from road debris. It's the part that is now covered with some kind of clear thingie from the factory. I had some sharp thing pierce this shield.

ask a local tint shop to either order or cut you a piece of 3M clear vinyl to go in the spot

That`s what he has now.
I saw this film for the first time last week at the dealers, if is a cover-up at best. I can`t believe that GM actually thinks this is a fix.

I was thinking that "stone guards" would be a more affordable way to fix the problem. From what I've read, it looks like GM will repaint the bottom of the fenders for free. Is this correct? It's just the running boards that will cost you (unless you go to the BBB as I've some members do) and thats at cost price.

Wouldnt it be easier and maybe cheaper to just get the 3M film for the area, and just reapply new film whenever needed?

GM will offer a one time only repaint of the affected area, but I think that the board install has to be done at that time.

This is probably why the more recent models are coming w/ the 3M application.

Hmm ... I'm wondering if I can just get the paint done, and then I can just get the film to fix the problem. Honestly, I don't like the look of the running boards.

I have running boards but I wish I had the stone guards also....are these available at all from the dealer?

I'll have to look at this 3M thing at some HHRs that are on the lot...is it only on HHRs w/o boards?

The guards are avail. at the dealer, cost prohibitive to me...
And yes, only HHRs w/o boards get the Film treatment.

Goose ... According to my parts list, the stone guards are called "body side molding"....they cost 67.77 each (dunno if this is correct or not).....and the part numbers for Orange are....Rt side - 15221355 and left side - 15221354

I got those from a parts listing that I bought offa ebay.

OOPS Goose doesn't have Orange....there are different part numbers for each color. This listing is based on 2006, maybe they didn't have teal on '06? They all start out with 155213, then the last 2 numbers change based on color.......from 45 to 65
