Mine must be on Viagra. I have been over 100 MPH and it didn't get "limp".

 

Well I bought a shortie antenna (not from Mike) and lost reception. So I reinstalled my fishing pole and decided to modify it. I cut it down to the base just below the fishing pole area where it has the windings. I then searched through my many bins of junk (and I mean MANY) untill I found just the right rubber tip. I cut off the fishing pole and super glued on this rubber cap (I think it's supposed to be a rubber foot for something) and it fit perfect. I now have a shortie with no loss of reception. I do have four more of these rubber tips left if anyone want's one, all you have to do is pay the shipping. I'm not a cheap bastard, but on a fixed income I can only afford so much. BTW: I only use USPS priority mail for your protection and mine.

 

the rubber plugs you are referring to are end caps for air lines, you can get a package of 4 at pepboys for $1.29 (i think i bought 3/8th size) i went that route myself a few months back when i first modded my factory antenna BUT they weather very fast and crack and turned grey. i beleive the black silicone is the way to go ..... just my opinion

 

The little blue pills work great!! Been to 118 and no signs of limpness here either!
But I finally ordered a different antenna anyway.

 

No, they are little silicon rubber caps used on the ends of screws to protect your hands from getting scratched, they came with something I built but instead of using the caps I just ground off the protruding screw ends.

I used one of these caps on my Focus antenna and now three years later it hasn't turned color yet. -Dan

 

I think mine is on viagra too. I upgraded to a stubby anyways.

 

Reception is very weak now after the stubby. Don't know what to do now. Dan-d's idea sounds good. Hmmmm.....

I like how the stubby looks. I would hate to put that fishing pole back on.

 

Out of curiosity can you describe where you live (city, rural town, flat land or lost of hills yada yada). I live in a small city but there are tons of hills and even with the fishing pole reception can be poor depending on where I am and which station I am listening too.

I LOVE the stubby look but if it will render my reception so bad that the radio sucks, I will find a better alternative.
