Surface protection, Zaino, Collinite, other?
Anyone here use zaino or Collinite on their finishes?
I was just reading about Collinite in a Nissan Murano forum and am intrigued. It supposedly really peels off the rain with no sitting stains for a long while.

A quote from the forum: "I use Collinite insulater wax.
Yesterday I waxed the Mo in about 30 minutes. It was still beading water as if it had just been waxed...but I haven't touched it in 4 months except to wash every 4 weeks. Now it looks as if it has been dipped in glass. After the first two waxes, once every 6 months will do. I haven't waxed the black trim on the bottom of the doors in 8 months, and didn't rewax them yesterday because they still sheet off water. Scoot with hose, blink, it's dry."
I used Zaino for more than a year now on both MO and FX. And the results are great. Oh, and I used Homer's famous instruction how to use it. If you search the forum you will find it.
Another post:
"Today, however, I tried Collinite first time on FX. It was easy, did not even take 30 min - waxing, waiting and buffing off. Just one coat. Hope it will last as some of the board members reported."
"If I had more time I would stick with Zaino. It looks and feels great. Just too time consuming and I am more than busy now."
It seems as thought he Zaino package is great for folks who have the time to use it. I know my time is limited so the Collinite may be a way to go. Then again , I could stop posting and hanging around this forum and have plenty of time for Zaino!........
Nah I just got a wireless Laptop and it would be outside with me while I'm waxing!
This place is addicting!

Zaino is no more intensive than any other polish. The numerous steps always posted are what should be done with any decent polish job.
Once you do the initial application, you should not be spending any more time putting on that any other polish. I can do a maintenance coat on an HHR in 25 - 30 minutes, both applying it and taking it off.
Wash the Car - You should wash the car, preferably with a good liquid dish detergent to remove road film and any other polish. You do this to make sure you have nothing on the surface that will cause the polish to deteriorate.
Clay Bar - You want your paint surface as flat as possible to get the maximum shine. A bumpy surface will cause the refelcted light to go off in different directions, diminishes the shine and reduces the affect of all your hard work of polishing.
Wash Once More - You want to wash the car once more to make sure you have gotten all the Clay residue off the surface.
The above steps should be done no matter what product you are using. It is simply good practice to have a solid surface to apply your polish on.
For Zaino
Mix Zaino with the Accelerator - This is the only step that differs from anyone else and takes about a minute to do. In one of the ZFX mixing bottles, put in 1 oz of polish(Z-2, or Z-5 halfway, they are 2 oz bottles)
this will give you 3 coats of polish on an HHR.
For Zaino, the more coats you get on the better the shine and protection. I always recommend 3 coats.
Apply the Mixed Polish Zaino coats go on extremely thin, barely visible. The thinner the coats the better the shine. It should go on very easy, you are just spreading the polish. I tell people if you are working up a sweat putting on, your working way too hard!!!!
Let it Dry and Wipe Off in about 30 minutes the polish wil be dry and you should be able to simply wipe it off. Again if you are working at taking it off, you put it on too thick.
Optional- Apply Detail Spray To get an even better shine go over the HHR with Z-6 or Z-8 and really see the shine kick up another notch.
Apply Another Coat Apply your 2nd coat, let dry, wipe off, apply your 3rd coat, let dry, wipe off.
If you apply 3 coats, you will have protection and a great shine for about 6 months on an outdoor kept car, and 12 months on a garage kept car.
I can post pics of a couple of my cars with Zaino applied if there is any interest.
Just so you know where I am coming from, I am a Zaino dealer.
When I bought my 98 Vette, everyone of the Corvette Forum was talking about Zaino, so I bought some, and was very impressed with the results. I had not seen anything that matched the shine.
As it turned out, several people saw my car and asked me to order some for them when I did a re-order, to make a long story short, I became a dealer 4 years ago from calling that order in(It was pretty big).
Shameless self-promotion - I cannot take my cars anywhere without someone coming over wanting to know if the car had been repainted, or what kind of polish I was using.

Like an honest stock market broker, you acknowledged your potential personal and financial gain.
Thanks for the instructions, and I commend you.
I use Zaino on my Camaro and swaer by it now. I use the z-6 spary inbetween washes. I used to be hardcore Meguiars man and i used my D/A buffer on the car a lot, maybe too much. The Zaino definatly covers a lot of paint issues. Since Zaino is a Polish and not a wax you may need to use a wax on a Daily Driven car. I have a few members on my f-body club that use the tutrle wax ice over their zaino. The only big problem is you can not Zaino over the wax, so you need to wash with Dawn if you want to re-zaino. I have been in the ran a few times with the Camaro and i think the protection is just fine. The water beads and runs off like a wax, so i am fine with it. I am going to Zaino the HHR as soon as the rear bumper is repaired. I do know for a fact that body shop guys cringe when they hear a car has Zaino on it.
Anyway i truly believe that Zaino is worth the steps. It truly does get all the crap off the car and lay down a super slick surface.

Thanks for the tutorial. !
That's a lot of writing, but we all appreciate it.
I may give Zaino a try. I have to put in all the correct steps to clear the surface anyway........
I have to get a clay bar. Are they available in Auto Zone type stores, or is this an online type item?
My car is outside all year as our convertibles take up the garage. Rain currently stays on it and leaves stains. I'm sure it has only been waxed when I got it used at the dealer and when it was new. I don't feel the paint was really cared for by the previous owner It has a LOT of small paint chips/dings that need touch up as well. I first have to clean it with dishwashing soap, then do the paint touch up.
The convertibles need polish too, so I'll start with the HHR and see what gives. We have four cars, so I could use four different approaches/types of products. Now to find the time..........

It has a map and links to a state by state data base. Also they say this at the bottom of that links page:
"Can't find a distributor located near you? Contact us directly." And the sentence is a live link to their email address.
Good luck, Let us know if you get some and use it. I'm still thinking I want to try it. Still, the Zaino sounds good too. I'm more interested in sheer protections with a decent gloss than just a great gloss for show.
As long as someone started this again.......
What is suggested for the black "plastic" trim, such as the cowling, front bumper insert, rear step pad, etc???
Previously, on other vehicles, I have used Armoral. But, I am not impressed with it. For one thing, I had some fading after a year or two.
Also, is Zaino a wax, polish or protectant. Wax in Arizona is really not needed (I witnessed tests that confirm this). Sun (fading) and pollution protection is what I am looking for, so I use NU Finish which is Consumer Reports recommended. Anyone have other suggestions???

I've never heard or read anywhere that said that. Does the sun shine in Arizona?
