Well actually the short shifter I installed is a bit longer below the pivot ball, this too helps shorten the throws. But in my experience with many other cars, cutting the stock shifter greatly shortens the throw. The biggest advantage in cutting down the stocker is that you don't have to remove it. You can cut it in place. We use a dremel with a high speed cutting disk. Another advantage is that you can cut off some and if it isn't short enough you can always cut off more.

Your welcome Charles. If you do any of this don't forget to let us all know. BTW: You will also see that after you remove the stock knob the shifter shaft has a flat area, this is to aligh the stock knob. Don't worry about this flat area, you can still thread the shaft and install an after market knob.
