I bet youd go through the clear in no time. GM isnt known for thick durable paint.
Id like to try it, but im not taking the chance without extra coats of clear.

I am a detailer and I don't like how the paint has orange peel in it.. I have wet sanded another vehicle of mine and it turned out great.. I actually plan on only doing half the car so I can show a before and after. I know its all about taking your time.

The paint is thin enough already. You will just be sanding the high spots on the dimples to match the thinner indents thus weakening the paint altogether. I have done wet sanding on pre 1984 vehicles when paint was paint (was a detailer for a bunch of wholesale retail car guys back then). When I do other cars now I never even let that thought pass into my head. The only time I did it on a newer car (1990 Chrysler) was when my stepdad decided to use turpentine to clean his clearcoat (don't ask where he got that Idea) and I had to fix his wounderful job and respray the car with clear.

WOULD YOU WET SAND A BABBIES BOTTOM? (Just my .0002 cents)

Customers go for shine & sparkle. When they see that, any paint imperfections are never noticed-unless you point it out to them.

(The saying in our shop was-The girl will never know you have a pimple on your a-- unless you show it to her-then after that, that's all she'll ever notice. (That should say it all))

I understand what you are saying But I still notice the orange peel in my paint and I did my 1998 Chevy truck and it turned out really well. Thank you for you opinion.. I will probably still wet sand the car cause I just love how great the color looks without the orange peel.. My 1998 was the beautiful blue that dark blue that looked purple and green under some lights. and when I did it, it was already 10 years old.

Well let us know how it turns out. As I said, Id love to try it too. Just did a polish/wax today, boy does it ever bring out the orange peel and stone chips.

Sad, but I see orange-peel even on new Vettes..

I have always cut-n-buffed my rides to a slick finish..Especially if I painted them, cause I use a LOT of paint. Every few yrs just do another cut-n-buff back to looking fresh...

And it's very obvious when you hit color when sanding.. But then it's too late..

Be curious as to how you make out..
