Wheel Question - 17" RIAX Fontana on an LS?
Sooo... was showing a friend here at work; my new wheels... as I had them delivered here and he was asking about them.
He mentioned; that usually when one upgrades to a larger wheel or tire... then the Speedometer or Odometer has to be recalibrated to compensate. I'm guessing that, since I am going from a 16" wheel, to a 17" wheel... staying within "factory specifications" and the tire size is the same size that Chevy sells on their 17's... then this recalibration thing, isn't an issue for me?

Not necessarily: Those HHRs are calibrated to those tires OD..
What IS the issue: is the OD (Overall Diameter) of the OEM original tires,
If you can stay that same size on a bigger rim, speed-o & odometer will still be ok. Not sure about warranty though ?
However, what I don't see, is anyone mentioning "up-grading" the brakes to help stop the additional rotating mass aka=(bigger rims)...
Do the HHRs that come w/17"s have bigger brakes ?? they should IMO.
I see people add 20"s cause they can fit, but stopping power has been greatly compromised... (food for thought)

It could be different in the States, but in Canada the 17" wheels are part of PEG LT 1SC, and while there are added mechanical features (different struts, standard ABS) I don't think the brakes themselves are any different.
I don't think adding 17s would be a problem, but seeing as GM includes ABS as part of the package perhaps they have some minor concerns. The rotating mass would be higher - even with a lightweight alloy - but many others have done this mod without a hitch. The guys with 20in rims... I guess the brakes on HHRs are pretty good to put up with those!

Yea, Until that one time they have to do an emergency stop
Plus the bigger they go does the cost of $$$ tires
