Question Widest wheel and tire combo for HHR

What is the widest wheel and tire combo we can go with on our HHR's
I have a SS with 18's right now and would like to get a better look.

It will be extremely hard if not possible at all to fit a wide wheel in an 18".. 17" opens up more possibilities but 16 would be ideal. I'm sure with the right offset you could fit a 245/45/16 and it would look very aggressive.

Most likely gonna have to be a custom wheel though with our lame front wheel drive offset and proprietary bolt pattern wheel selection is still limited at best.

I see what you mean.
My intentions are to get as wide a tire in the back in a nitto drag tire and the ones for the fronts just to match them up. I know it's front wheel drive but I will have use of a drag radial in the front for traction while keeping the same tire pattern in the back for the looks
Or the same size on all four corners would be

The HHR looks really cool with some fat meats on it. Ideally its the look i'm going for but the wheel situation is a major problem. I'm not going to stop looking though some manufacture will come thru eventually.

I'd be pretty happy with an 8" wide wheel.

I see a lot of folks using 235's here, but I don't know all the offsets they are using. I'd love to go 235/50 - 16, it's almost a perfect diameter match to stock. Hard tire to find though....still wondering about the offset too, about 38 to 45 seems to be the norm with a 7.5 inch rim.

i'm kind of curious on this as well. i'm considering going to some 18x8 wheels, and want to run a 245/40R18 tire. any clue what kind of offset to look for to make that combo work? also, i know they'd be a bit bulgy, but has anyone tried 245/40 on a 18x7.5? any rubbing? may wait on rims and just go wider and stickier tires for the time being. these poor SS cars got the shaft on factory tires...purely for longevity, and no thought to grip for performance.

Cant get away with rubber bands in California you will have bent/dented wheels within 5 miles.

??You talkin the Michelin Pilot sports. They are very good tires. If you were expecting R-Compounds from the factory then I understand, even though these are meant to be drivers, not sports cars. For A/S tires they are very good.

Try Nitto NT555 extremes or Toyo RA888s. They are both very sticky R-compounds and the Toyos are rain race tires so they can work in wet conditions. Since my SS is a daily commuter it will not see R-compounds ever.
