'06 Radio Issues

Hello, everyone!

My wife's '06 HHR's radio display has went blank (She has the upgraded deck with MP3 plug in and a she has a Pioneer sub in the back). I'm assuming I need a new unit and I've found them online. I plan on taking the deck out this weekend and getting the part number to ensure a correct replacement. I have 2 questions;

1. Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the bezel (around the radio) off and what to look for when taking it off.

2. The internet 'claims' I need to take the unit to a dealer to have it coded to my vehicle. Now, I had swapped out a CD deck in my wife's old Malibu and I put that deck in the freezer for a 1/2 hour and it worked fine. Can I do this for the replacement deck in the HHR?

Any other additional help is much appreciated from my fellow HHR brothern.

Thanks!

Jeff

Try this link to the Audio portion of this forum.

The top 2 "stickys" may answer any questions. You can also scan down thru the various threads of that forum for ideas, etc.

But to answer your 'freezer" question directly.........I have heard some people had success and some people no success with the freezer method ON OLDER RADIOS. Don't know if it works with the newer ones.
