12 V ignition / switched power source

I need a 12 v Ignition / switched power source for an aftermarket radio. Can I splice into the brown accesory wire under the dash or the Red wire that plugs into the center console fuse box? Are both of these power sources protected by a fuse or will they fry my radio?? Any information is much appreciated.

The BIG red wire that feeds the center console fusebox carries a constant "hot" 12V - it is not switched. I wired my aftermarket head there so I can enjoy music without the key in or on.

If you want a "switched" source that will only be on with the key, splice into the red/white wire on the factory radio harness.

Hope it helps,

You should always run an inline fuse between your stereo and the power source to prevent accidents. An ounce of protection...

Mike,

Thanks for the quick response, I will have to try it out this weekend. I will also have to check out your website to see what else I can mod on my HHR.

Thanks ...

do they not make a wiring harness for these cars yet? I am really thinking this is a Dodge radio now. With the antenna adapter and the red/white switched +

The HHR runs data through a low-speed GM LAN data cable into the radio to run turn signals, door, light & seat belt chimes. An interface is being developed right now but it's been a slow road. When it is completed, expect it to street for around $70-75.

The Panasonic (oops! I'm supposed to say "Pioneer"), stereo in the HHR does utilize a Chrysler antenna jack. We sell the adapter to go from Chrysler to male standard plug used in most aftermarket radios.

Hope it helps,

Thats right. I keep forgeting that the PT was just the first draft-the practice model. The model that he worked out the mistakes on. We got the finished version.

I thought the red/white on the factory harness was constant.
