2011 Radio Quality?

My first post.
Just brought home a 2011 HHR LS. 34,440 miles. All white (have to work on that, won't get radical. I am 73 and wife is conservative. I've had her for 54 yrs, so better mind my manners.)

Radio is original. It is not bringing in hardly any stations, even while still in Orlando. Radio has CD and is XM capable. (I just now thought about checking if the antenna is screwed tight.) Does the front antenna serve regular and XM reception? Not anxious to start paying for XM.

Appreciate any replies.

Welcome to the site.

check for rust/crud on the front antennae stub when you remove it. Also, check to ensure the plugin is tight at the back of the radio. You can use the SEARCH function near the top of the page to find out how to remove the waterfall that surrounds the radio head unit, or for removing the radio so as to get at the radio rear connections

The front one should be a whip a little over a foot long, they sometimes get stolen on car lots. There have been some issues reported about the wiring up under the headliner. Also possible the previous owner had a different radio installed the reinstalled incorrectly, you'd need to pull the waterfall off (stick your fingres in the A/C vents and pull) and check the antenna connector. Somebody was talking about the antenna having electrical connections going to it, like for amplifying if so, there could be a fuse.

Was the car from Florida. My 06 radio works fine and has been in Florida since new. I was thinking that if the car was from other rust belt state some antenna corrosion might be an issue.

Antenna

Thanks for the replies.
According to Autocheck provided by Experian and Chevy dealer, vehicle was from Indiana/Illinois until recently and was in a rental fleet. Being from Wisconsin, I checked all seams that would normal begin to rust from road salt and found it to be amazingly clean. There are only 2 small nicks in paint and they are high up and have been touched up well.

Antenna was slightly loose. Tightened antenna and did not make any difference. I am now home on west side of state, not as many stations, but are not receiving stations that come in fairly well on Chrysler radio.

I will remove antenna and start over with your suggestions.
Thanks

HHR radio

Thanks for replies.

I loved the appearance of this vehicle at first sight when it appeared on the market. Immediately took me back to childhood and the home town grocery delivery panel trucks.

You might want to take it into your dealership just to get checked out.
