8 12"s with the seats up?

Think it's possible?

Got 8 of these for $173.92 out the door.

2400w "claimed" RMS.

I gave one 800w rms clean power while inverted in a 1.75 cubic foot box tuned to 32hz. Mechanically, the sub barely moved.

Thermally, I started to smell a little something.

I might just do 4 of them, wired to 2 ohms and give them 800w rms or whatever my amp does at 2 ohms. The subs would have a total of 1200w rms with 4 of them.

Which equals out to 200w rms each when they are 300w rms so that seems pretty good.

Wow, those are some crappy subs. Not being a Richardhead but I wouldn't use these as doorstops.

Now I'm not a crazy comp audio person who will spend 1k per sub in some attempt to achieve a meaningless score and in the process go deaf, but most audiophiles like myself don't go the cheapest route either.

There are four categories of car subs; competition, [[[quality with power]]], low quality with power and low quality low power. Yours may possibly be low quality with power but from what I know of that brand it low quality low power. Your true RMS and Peak with that brand are nowhere near what they list.

I'm currently doing power and suspension mods, will move to wheels and tires then body then stereo, but I do already have my subs and I'm going for a 4-12" setup with two JL Audio 12s and two Alpine type Rs both of course running on their own mono amp and wired properly. Also have a HO alternator from Stinger not installed yet. None of this is cheap but I want to be at the [[[quality with power]]] level as I love my Metal. I do find car audio a waste of money no matter what you spend being I only use my autos maybe 10,000 miles a year but I can't live without it.

I've done the cheap route many times before. I went from each level finally making my way up to [[[quality with power]]] with my last car and onto my HHR. I will never step up to competition level because it's worthless unless you actually compete, something I have no interest in or time for. But once you do get to the [[[quality with power]]] level you can't go back.

I would suggest not spending too much to build a low quality with power or low power system, seems you are doing a good job there already, but adding amps, wires and other adds up. Save up for a higher level.

As to your title question, yes. I've seen a PT with 8-12s and room to spare. It's more about the box and amp placement then it is about the subs when referring to space issues. Add a HO alternatior, tons of low gauge wiring and a good custom box/boxes and anything is possible.

2 alpines and 2 jl's seems a little ghetto.

Why not 4 dc level 2's? 600w rms each. They will take 1000 w rms all day. 2 would be enough.

Or 2 15's or one 18"

How many total rms watts are you going for?

Sounds like 2000w rms final? Ssa xcon 15" 1750w rms is $440. Im guessing those jls and alpines are $100 each?

Im running a single jl 12" now but thinking about getting this older dd 18" sub with box for $150 plus some trades.

I only got these cause they were $20 each. I already sold 2 for $75.

Im gonna try to scrounge up some wood to build a box as i dont feel like spending money on a box for them.

They are a little too cheap for me after i tried one. Starts to smell way too easily

Jl is over priced. Alpine kenwood jvc pioneer all make entry level subs for the price. Anything good costs way too much and when you get to that price range, might as well go the competition grade which is built to last.

lol The subs alone are 3,200 rms. Not ghetto at all. The alpines will face into the seats the JLs will face back in separate custom boxes using separate amps and custom wiring I haven't decided on yet.

Why not any other combo? There are hundreds. I have chosen what I have chosen doing research for the type of music I listen to and the type of vehicle they are going into.

With components total rms possible is 4,200.

No, the JLs are around 500 each(1,000 rms each) if you find a deal, the Alpines are about 175 each.

There are so many models of JL 12s all have different rms/peak.

I understand the deal. A person could probably make a good profit selling them all for the price you got them at.

I will be custom building my boxes, my local stereo shop has great installers who have multiple sub box designs and they are happy to give them away. I may have them do some work but not much as I'm looking to most work myself.

I would never go comp level, some comp subs are 3k, basic comp subs are around 1k. The JLs models I have are priced just right for how well they perform. There is that happy medium of quality and power one can find in car audio, it takes some time and experience.

Which jl's are you going with? Are you going for sq or spl?

Guarantee you can get better for cheaper. Jl is over priced

The JLs will be in a spl the Alpines a sq. The JLs are

I already have these

http://www.goldstaraudio.com/jl-audio-12w7ae-3/

I tied out many combos at my local store in the soundroom, this is the best for me IMO.

Please, make some suggestions as I have installed many different subs in many vehicles. I have an older uncle with all Boston Acoustics in his old International 4x4 and it's one of the best sounding systems I've even heard. They are considered over-priced as well.

No offense but car audio shops/stores don't have anything good for the most part. JL's are probably the best brand I've seen in stores aside from memphis (and typically they don't have the high end memphis)

The thing is, these underground brands (DC audio, digital designs, sundown, sound solutions audio (SSA), incriminator audio, Fi audio) ONLY build subs (and sometimes amps). They don't do head units, subs, amps, home audio, pc speakers, monitors, keyboards, etc, etc - you get the picture.

the DC level 2, for example (because I was offered it in a trade) is rated for 600w rms but will take 1000w rms all day easily (with clean power)

I know for a fact that Fi has some SQ subs, I'm sure some of the other brands do too.

If 2 of those JL's aren't enough, get 2 more if you can afford it, or sell them, and get something better.

How much power are you giving each of those? and what size box? Those are the SPL subs if I'm not mistaken.

Having subs for SPL and subs for SQ won't work because the bass from the SPL subs will drown out the quality from the others.

there are SQL subs available but are harder to find.

I suggest going on CACO ( car audio classifieds), DIYMA, or rhealm of excursion for starters. They know a lot more about this stuff than I do but I have a pretty good (if not under-funded) understanding of it all.

Or maybe someone who is better at this than I am will chime in.

But seriously, please don't get 2 different types of subs lol. And sell the JL's if you can do so with minimal price loss.

Also, going to keep the seats up or down? Are you ok with taking up the entire cargo area with a sub box?

Ya friend, it's not your typical car audio store. He has brands you can't buy in stores for the most part. The owner has been in competitions for two decades and his rep in town is very good. Here is a pic of the last job I helped him with at his shop. Not top quality brands or that big of a job but you get the point that he is not a typical car audio guy.

I've definitely seen and heard DC Audio, FI Audio and a few of the others you listed. I installed some DC Audio subs in a eclipse project last summer, not sure what models they were but they were giants and had great power. I think they were the XLs and he paid 400 or so for each. Don't remember if the amps were the same brand or not. I just got a call from a guy who bought some FI subs, Q somethings. Wanted me to wire and install them in the boxes my audio guy made for him. Can't say much about most the brands you list as I have no experience with them.

I trust JL because I have history with them. Can't say much more to that. Experiencing the sound itself it the selling point. Every brand of sub is a bit different and it's hard to trust and commit to a brand I've never experienced for more then a day or in some cases never.

Can you link any video/audio, reviews of those brands?

The JLs will get a about a 1200 watt amp each rms, where as the two alpines will both run off one amp. Haven't chosen amps or box details yet. As far as I know the JLs are more a spl then a sq.
Having both brands integrated together work fine, I've heard many systems with a similar setup, installed a few as well. The difference between spl and sq is a fine line if the sub isn't an extreme example of one or the other. In my case the box design I'm working on will allow the sq to be heard.

I would never buy used or new unused audio from classifieds. The same as I won't build a supercharger for my hhr piece by piece with used parts. I buy new only. I am on other audio specific forums but haven't needed much if any advice of late from other sources then the ones I already have.

Seats up as I use them. All I haul are guns, ammo, people and myself so most of the time cargo is not needed. But yes, committing to a powerful system one has to give up the space on the hhr. I've seen some in-floor and pillar sub installs on the hhr and other crossovers and they look ok but the sound from them no matter how good of brand you use is horrid. It will be tight!

Again, I'm not doing competition so I don't need the best of the best, but if you can point me to some reviews or video of some of those brands at work please do.

I run a single 12 RE audio in my HHR and it is plenty. I couldn't see the need for 8 subwoofers or even 4. Good luck and think about getting another battery and I hope the alternator is up to the job.

Thank you for saying this. This is how car audio was MENT to be and why brick and mortar stores exist (all be it a dying breed). The internet and internet hype have kill the car audio business.
It seems no one listens to speakers anymore to determine what sounds good to THEM. Instead they get on Youtube or a forum and see something that someone else is running in a different car and that someone says it the best and that is what they go buy on the internet.
Sound is subjective folks. What I think sounds good you might think it sounds like poop and vise versa. If all you want to do is be loud and do hair tricks then ANY old sub with a monster motor will do, just give it a bunch of power at 50% distortion and be on your marry way. Post your video on Youtube and say they are the best subs ever. But don't expect to actually HEAR the music as it was intended to be listened to.
I am not saying some of the internet companies don't make a decent product but how would I know this. Can't go to a dealer and listen to them in most cases. And even if you could I bet 90% of people don't, the just take someone elses word for it.

This is why I am glad SilverStreet said what he/she said. Let me have experience with a product, let me listen to it, talk to support about it. Then I might try it IF it like how it SOUNDS.
