Question Aftermarket HU issues

I know I put a similar thread in the service / problem forum, but I wanted to put one here since my question is NOW related specifically to the installation / functioning of the aftermarket HU I am try to install...sorry if there is duplication.

Since my OEM changer died completely, I decided to go aftermarket with this HU (DUAL XDMAR 6720 - http://dualav.com/mobileaudio/xdmar6720.php

With this I bought the install kit and harness (GM2500i - GM13SR - http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/2148) to retain my chimes and blinker click - I will eventually add the goodies to "recover" the use of my steering wheel controls (switch over to the PAC harness or add the necessary accessories for the HU), BUT I have one big issue right now.

When I plug everything in and turn the car on - the radio powers up. It will switch modes (radio, cd, aux-in, bluetooth and so on), accept a CD, etc...however, I have no sound and nothing is being shown on the HU display. The unit is on and the backlight for the display is on...

I contacted DUAL - they said they've had customers calling with this same issue and to exchange it - which I have on order.

In the mean time:

I still need to get the antenna adapter for it - could this be affecting the lack of sound / display on the unit? Is there a "special" adapter needed because of the funky end of the antenna plug??

I have the "premium" pioneer system with the sub and amp.
I did notice that the wiring kit only had a power, ground, retained power (red, black, yellow) wires and then the 8 speaker connections - no remote turn on lead (the am HU has one but nothing on the harness to mate it with).
Is the harness the issue?
I did some digging around here and found some stuff that indicates I may not be getting a signal from the HU to kick the amp on, but also that this should ONLY affect the functioning of the sub - the rest should have sound since its powered off the HU.
If this not is the case how do I make this work?

One more thing - since my HHR has factory equipped XM and the HU is XM ready (requiring the SVX100), does what I need already exist in the car somewhere? The unit from XM is a little tuner box and the XM antenna. I'm thinking what I need is hiding somewhere and I just have to plug it in. I'd love to be able to use what's already there without having to buy more from XM. I do have the online side so I could theoretically stream it from my phone, but I'd rather have full access from the HU like I used to with the OEM one.

Of course, this is pointless if I can't get any sound / display from the HU.

I'm really getting frustrated with this BS. Why the hell does GM have to make it so damn complicated?? If there is anyone in the eastern PA area that knows how to make this work I'll buy you lunch / dinner to help me out!!

Yes, I realize its a lower brand HU, but it has all the options I want.

Thanks in advance for any help / advice you guys can give me. I appreciate it greatly!!

I have an aftermarket HU. I just used this and my subwoofer work ok:

For the antenna yes, you require and adapter.

You could try it.

Exclamation Working HU - still no sound

Well - I got a replacement HU that works. I can only assume the issue now is something either in the harness I'm using or elsewhere downstream of the head unit.

Using the install kit I noted in my first post (http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/2148) I followed the instructions and used harness "B" (the kit comes with 3 possible harnesses). When I plug everything back in, I get my chimes and turn signals, the radio powers up and the display indicates full functionality, YET I STILL GET NO SOUND FROM ANY SPEAKER!!!

What the hell am I doing wrong?

Is the issue with the harness (not "truly" correct for my car perhaps)?
Should I just break down and shell out the $120 for this one? http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127C2RG...6#overview-tab

I still need to get an antenna adapter, but I wasn't in a hurry for that since I very rarely use the AM/FM. Is this the adapter I need? http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12040CR...r.html?tp=2569

Anyone?

Also, anyone have any ideas on my first post regarding the XM tuner? This head unit is SiriusXM ready as I pointed out in the first post, and I would love to not have to buy another adapter to get it working.

Thumbs up FINALLY - I have a working stereo!!

So I did a little more digging within the forums here and wasn't able to turn up much...

Then I called Scosche tech support - the guy there helped me in about 30 seconds.

If anyone opts to get the same install kit and harness (GM2500i kit and GM13SR harness) - it works great.

If you have the pioneer "premium" system you have to jump one wire across the factory/harness plugs...the head unit's remote turn on lead needed to be jumped all the way across the connections and be tapped into the pink factory wire - its in Pin3 position (starting from top right going left is how they are counted).

I tapped into this with the remote turn on lead and viola - I'm in business.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed on both of my threads with this!!

Glad I found this. I bought the GM13SR for $20 on ebay and had no sound. wiring the remote line to PIN 3 for the amp worked perfectly for me. Now I have my new Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS working on my '09 HHR with factory pioneer system. thanks much for the info!
