Question Amp popping

I am new to this site and have a question/problem that may have already been asked. I have a 2006 HHR LT with the Pioneer system. On occasion when we start the vehicle there is a loud popping sound that comes from the speakers. My assumption was that it was comming from the amp which has since been replaced by GM. The problem still persisted and I just got it back again today and all they did was a software upgrade. Does anyone have any thought or had similiar issues. Hope to get some help on this one.

Sounds like you have the infamous bad ground.

oldschoolfreak found that if he tapped his foot in different places on the floor in front of the driver's seat he could make it pop. Try a search for "pop" and "popping" you'll get all the info you need.

I'll give you odds the dealer did not do the software upgrade correctly. Tell them to look up the TSB and following it regarding, do's and don't's. Most dealer service personal do the don't's to minimize the time spent with that vehicle.

Good Luck.

Here's the last TSB I had for the Radio "pop".....06-08-44-007C

There may be a revision after this one. But, it will have the same number, with a different letter at the end.

Just a note, AGAIN.....this service MUST BE performed exactly as indicated. No shortcuts. That means the update must be downloaded directly from website, not from a cd. AND IT IS SPECIFIC TO THE YEAR OF VEHICLE AND TO THE MODEL....HHR....AND TO YOUR VIN. It cannot be done from a generic cd....which greatly minimizes the time and does not provide the desired outcome.

I would ask to see the Service Manager and to review the previous work AND the TSB requirements with him/her.

Again, good luck

Is the software upgrade needed if a aftermarket radio and GMOS LAN3 adaptor? Ever since I installed this I get a pop from my left front speaker when chime completes.
