Amp question

I talked to an audio guy today and he suggested the following..... A four channel amp , 2 channels for the front and tieing the other two together for the sub. He thinks that I should use the old amp for the rear speakers since they are more ambient in nature. What do you guys think? Is this a good set up or should I get a mono amp for the sub and use the 4 channels for the 4 - 6.5 door speakers?

BTW, I am going to use the stock head with a Rockford processor - 360.1.

Why not just do a 5 channel?
