A big a$$ mess!!!
I replaced my door speakers (from 2-ohm stock to 4-ohm Pioneer TS-1671's), while the original HU was still installed nearly a year ago, with no problems. Ran that setup for 3 months without a hiccup while amassing my new system.
Going from 2-ohm to 4-ohms is "easier" on your HU. It allows the amp to work less.
Chains are being pulled.
I would recommend heading out to another Chevy dealer as these guys are not going to figure it out....

The problem is, as I'm being told, that as long as a dealer says its not a warraty issue it will be on file as such no matter which dealer I go to. The system worked fine for four months. Now they are saying that while they can't prover it is the speakers, they won't work on it anymore unless the speakers are changed.
Is it possible that with all the computer crap they've put into these the HU would know? For instance i know if you change out the radio for anouther OEM, it has to be flashed or it won't work. I'm just grasping at straws.
Anyone know where I can get a schematic for the antenna base?
I still think that's where the problem is. They did tell me that one of the wires in the harness from it had shorted out.

Honestly i would put the factory speakers back in to make them happy and let them fix whatever it is that is broke and them as soon as it's fixed and they don't try to strip your warrenty from you just throw the new ones back in...Thats what i would do...

Having never hauled my HU out, does it indicate what ohm speakers it can drive?
From an article I read on impedance:
"If your speakers are the wrong impedance, or you have hooked several speakers up in such a way that the combination presents the wrong impedance to the amplifier, you expose yourself to numerous problems. Impedance matching is necessary to:
get optimum volume
avoid wasting power
avoid excess stress on your amp
prevent damage to your amp
avoid excess stress on your speakers
prevent damage to your speakers
reduce distortion and noise; get good tone
avoid uneven sound distribution "
going 2 to 4 should not be a huge issue but then I am no expert.

I dont want to jinx myself, but I have had 4 ohm speakers in my HHR with the factory HU since January with no problems. But, if you check my other post regarding my airbag problem, the dealer will look for ANY excuse to get out of warranty work. My airbag waring light came on all of a sudden (drove car all day, shut off the engine while my wife was in the doctors office, turned it back on and warning light was there). When I brought the car in to fix it, they told me that since they did not have the wiring diagram for the HHR yet (too new) it would take a while. Four hours later, they told me it was just a fuse. But, since I tapped into the fuse box to wire my GPS, it was my fault and I had to pay $212.

they are from the cheapest stereo system, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters (errrr, well one tweeter is kinda trashed, i was trying to se if i could take it apart to use it's mounting base on my new ones)
