Bluetooth vcim module
Bluetooth vcim module
I would like to know if it is possible to switch out the VCIM module(non Bluetooth) to one that is Bluetooth for my 2011 HHR LT and have the Bluetooth feature work. I have ONSTAR capability(not subscribing). I DO NOT have the steering wheel controls. Will the Bluetooth function with my cell phone and work through the car speakers? Will the new VCIM have to be programmed to the vehicle? I'm not sure how you would pair the phone to the VCIM without the steering wheel controls. Anyone done this or have any answers? Has anyone installed the Beeline BEGG-BG 25 module. Per there tech the have a remote to use if you do not have the steering wheel controls. Trying to make something work other than the portable sun visor units. Wireman
Hello
Yes. I did this in my 08 Panel and the Bluethooth works fine. I do not know about your 2011 MY. But pull out your radio and look at the wire connector. If you see a PINK/BLACK and ORANGE/BLACK wires next to each other it is then pre-wired from the radio to ONstar VCIM for cell.
No. Its plug-n-play. I hear GM will not sell you a new one. So if you buy a used one what ever vehicle it comes out of that is what Onstar will see. Mine came out of a 2010 Blue HHR.
Thats correct. You can not pair the phone from the mirror. Only the steering wheel controls.

I installed one in my 2007 MY. The 1st one I got was DOA. The manufacture exchanged it for a new one. so dont buy it from eBay.
I dont like it compaired to the BT VCIM. It has relays that switch the signals when talking. relays fail easily over time.
I do like that you can stream music to the radio via Bluetooth. Music only plays out of the front speakers.
GM bluetooth VCIM will not....cell connect only.

Thanks Pretzel for the info. That leads to another question. Since I don't have the steering wheel controls its a mute point buying a Bluetooth VCIM if I can't pair the phone. Can I install the steering wheel controls with the factory switch, harness and cover? Is that a plug and play option that will work along with a VCIM? Would the radio controls work even if I didn't buy the VCIM and installed the new SWC's? My concern is if there is a existing wiring harness in the steering wheel to the radio to plug a SWC switch into. A lot of ?'s, but I don't want to be throwing money around if certain options won't work. Thanks. Wireman
Wireman,
YES. I would suggest you install the steering wheel audio controls.
It will work if you dont install any bluetooth
If you go with VCIM or the Beeline BEGG-BG 25 it will work with both.
If you decide to add the controls please post in HOW TO thread if you have any questions.

I have a 2006 hhr lt with teh factory pioneer radio single cd with teh factory amped sub in the back. I do not have the onstar option. Its not even in the car. I have the leather steering wheel with controls. Can I add blutoth to this car?
You can only add a after market Bluetooth.
You don't have the wires in placed to plug in a factory OnStar/bluetooth VCIM module. Plus the BCM would have to be reprogrammed to turn on the OnStar if it never had it.
Cheers!

What does VCIM stand for? I was reading this thread and the other. How do you know what you already have. I have 2009 with onstar buttons on the mirror, one looks like a phone. XM radio, but no controls on the steering wheel. I've wanted to add wheel controls and I think one button is the bluetooth button. Would it work on my car just by adding the buttons on the wheel?
