Thanks grizzly old man. A few months ago I got a 2010 radio off eBay to put in my 2006 HHR lt. Many people told me it would not work. I took it to a dealer and they unlocked it , no problem. Very same radio I am trying to get unlocked in my 2011 HHR lt. So I no it can be done. Both radios have the USB in the radio face. The radio has to be either a us8 or us9 the 9 is when you have a 6 speaker system with factory amp, such as an HHR SS the 6 is what they used in the LT with 6 speakers. I am pretty sure my speakers are ok, sense they played fine the day I removed my radio and installed the donor radio. I will no for sure if I end up putting my old radio back in my car. I am hoping the new dealer can unlock it for me this Tuesday. I have read on a few sites about guys removing one of the legs on a prom on the circuit board , even removing the prom altogether . I guess the radio works, but it won't keep the radio settings after you power off. And you get an error reading for a few seconds each time the radio powers on. I ask the service manager if the tec new what he was doing, and of course he said yes he is trained. But they will tell you what you want to hear.

Hey pdmorris1,

Let us know how your visit to the dealership went today. I apologize that I haven't been able to follow along with your radio replacement until just now, but if there's anything I can do to provide an extra layer of customer care when talking to your dealership, please keep me in the loop.

Regards,

Geoff G.

Radio unlock

Took everyone's advice on here and took my car to a different Chevy dealership today. They had no problem unlocking my radio. It works great. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Glad you got it synced to your HHR, I didn't think a member would sell you a bad radio.
Now drop by the dealer and get any money you paid out back when they said it can't be done!!

Agree with OldBlue........At least and at the very minimum, let the dealer know they blundered in their performance.

I did go back to the first dealer and spoke with the service manager. I showed him my receipt for the unlocking. I said I think you need to train your so called tec, or update your equipment.he said I am really sorry about that, but refused to give my money back. That's ok, he look like a donkey with his head between his legs. That made my day
