Double Din Dvd Radio Install
I'm sorry for posting this trend because I know its spread all over a bunch of other trends. But anyways.
I have a new Kenwood double din DVD player that i'm going to install in my car. I ordered a dashkit for it yesterday Metra part number 95-3302. I know we do not have a wiring harness for our cars yet and we'll have to hardwire inorder for it to work. (personally not a fan) I was wondering all of the cons to doing this. I use to install for a living before our shop wend under. I was wondering if these cars were like the 00+ cavalier in terms of a radio. You have to use a GM-RC01 on them to replace the chime. The airbag also runs through the radio on those car.
So ultimately I guess what I'm asking is, If I hardwire my radio, will my airbag still work if i'm in a wreck? I don't want to get stuck with paying for the vehicle (or my own medical bills) if it is totalled out. And they refuse to pay for it because the airbag didn't deploy because of what I did.

The only thing you will lose when hardwiring your radio is:
Turn Signal Chimes
Seat Belt Chimes
Lights On Chimes
Door Open Chimes
Key In Chimes
Everything else in the DIC works properly and your airbags are not affected.
the GM-RC01 does not work as the HHR uses a new GM LAN low-speed data connection. Scosche is currently developing an interface but it is coming along slowly. Rumor has it the box will street at around $70.
On the "Pro" side; hardwiring can allow you to listen without having the key in, hear your music with the doors open while detailing, and listen while parked for more than 10-minutes (when the stock radio shuts off). Additionally, if you wire to a capable power source, your HU will actually produce higher quality sound due to less "shortages" of needed power during peak passages.
Feel better about hardwiring now?
Hope it helps,

I appricate the help. the airbag is the only thing that was scareing me. I really wonderd what the deal was with the HHR. I know it supose to be a Pioneer radio system. But its actually a Panasonic radio that takes a Crystler antenna adapter. The speakers wire colors are traditional GM colors but the power and ground are new colors.

I have the radio installed. It looks awesome. Looks like it came that way. I just cant get it to turn on. Anybody got any ideas? I got my constant and switched power wires from the fuse box and my ground is made at the body under the fuse box.
