Existing sub box

I have read in the archives that the existing stock sub box is about 3.5" deep. If the box is removed, how much depth is there to play with?

I am still throwing around mounting a Sounsplinter RLi8 in the stock location, but it requires 6" of depth. I would really like to return my deck to a functional stock like condition, but I need BASS and don't want a box type enclosure.

What about using a line driver for the sub?

You should be able to get a 10" sub in there, but not a 12" in the stock sub box.

Well? Thats an 8" and you can see how low it sits. a 10" would probably fit in a custom box, a 12" might be pushing it unless you move the subs position further back. Here is a better pic of the factory box.

And for spatial comparison

One problem to overcome is keeping the adjustable shelf useable.
I have seen one HHR with a 10" in the side but you only see the sub sticking out of the side and no view of the box. I'll see if I can dig the pic up. JOEK86 I assume you don't have the factory box in yours? If you want to check it out on mine PM me and we can meet up so you can check it out first hand. I would love to see your system in person.

Sure but the box pretty much fills the entire area from the window to wheel well. I don't think I have a shot from further back for comparison. Does this one help?
