hnewagn's Sub Box
hnewagn's Sub Box
I have received alot of e-mails about my sub box, I talked to JT at Al and Ed's in Huntington Beach and they have applied as a vendor on this site. If enough people want a box they will take the box out of my car and make them. My box is sealed and has a JL W1 10" nice bass. I don't think you can put a ported box in the location were my box is not enough room. I have a 300watt amp pushing the sub. If you have any more questions contact Rod or JT at (714) 848-8489

Personally I dont like ported boxes. In fact, I have foam rubber closing up the port on my sub tube. Too boomy.
What type of price range are we talking? I believe that would help people decide if they want one
I know that I do, provided the price is reasonable
That 10 inch tube takes up so much room, and it makes it hard to open up the storage hatch where I keep my tools and stuff. But it is still smaller than the box I used to have.

I like sealed enclosures vs. ported.
The seal enclosures take up less space and generally gives the bass a more natural sound.
Ported tend to be boomy and take up nearly twice the volume of space. Though they can be as much as twice as loud compared to a seal enclosure that is hooked up to the same amplifier.
Regardless of which set up you go with, tuning the amplifier and speakers with the head unit is key to getting good sound. I've seen pricey installs get ruined by bad tuning.

SO HAVE I!! But at the get-together, I was really impressed with the quality sound Hnewagon's car was putting out. I don't even really care for Al n Ed's, but it seems they had some knowledge of what he needed to have clean sound. None of that gut-wrenching stuff.
I am interested though. Is it called ported because it's in the sidewall of the car, or is it something in the speaker box design itself? And re "tuning": is tuning in the ear of the listener, or is it obvious, like off balance or wah wahing or is it when someone just turns up the volume into distortion. What all do you look for in tuning?

I'm intrigued. This will be a better use of space than the two 10" platform I was planning for the floor. This way I could get nice tight controlled bass from a single 10" and keep my cargo space. The JL amps will be place beneath the front seats.
Add me to your list. I'll gladly go the single 10 route with the same 300 watt JL amp I was going to use for two. The single 8" stock really needs replacing and it seemed 'till now no one could fit a 10" in that area and get good results.
