How long does it take to install a PAL?
so tell me what is the advantage of having a pal.....but one has to have an actual IPOD...... which i have a sandisk that gives me options on a jobsite that IPOD dont give, bugt if i remember correctly it only works with one of those IPOD overrated units. IMHO
i do just fine pluggin in to the mp3 jack....
but i would like to hear the advantage of one of these

Now that WOULD be NICE.......... Sure wish there was an adaptor that the sandisk which looks like and operates like an IPOD. Thanks chevymgr for in lighting me.... will that work on the cobolt.. daughter has one of them.
Yes the Cobalt has an install kit. Part #19171028. Must have RPO Code US8, US9, and not have RPO Code U1C. I tried to talk my son into an MP3 player (much cheaper) but he would have none of that. I guess it is a status thing to have the IPOD.
The PAL allows you to control the ipod, select your music, access playlists, etc. Things you cannot do through the stock stereo system if the ipod is hooked up via cable between headphone jack and AUX jack. My ipod is tucked away in the upper glove box, so controlling it through the steering wheel buttons and seeing the info on the stereo display are benefits to me.
BTW - I'm 48 and use an ipod simply because it works, and works well. Status? No, not hardly. I like the ease of working with iTunes, which works exceedingly well on my Macs, and interfaces beautifully with my ipod. I also carry movies on my ipod to watch when flying. I also use it as a hard drive and carry a system and repair applications on it so I can use it as an emergency drive with my machines and all the Macs I support in our company. That's why I use an ipod. Everyone has their preferences, mine is the ipod.

I finally got my PAL installed this morning. It was a bit of a hassle. It took the dealer about 2 hours to do the install. (They had never done one before)
They gave me my car back, I hooked up my ipod, it was recognized fine and I was able to play tracks from it. The problem came when I got home. I was playing around with the radio and found that it would not switch back to XM, even with the ipod disconnected. I fiddled with it for about 5-10 minutes, but no luck. I called the dealer back and tried what the tech said to try to fix it and it still didn't work. They also told me that they didn't have an ipod to test the unit when it was installed.
So, I had to take the car back and have them look at it. I gave them my ipod to use this time. From what they told me, the original flash of my radio didn't take and they had to re-flash the XM.
The PAL now seems to work as advertised.
Total time spent @ dealer - about 2.5 hours.
