How long does it take to install a PAL?
Well, to be truthful, they didn't actually say that the first flash was the problem, it was more the impression that I got.
I did think it was a bit lame that they didn't fully test the install before they gave me my car back though. I was sitting there in their waiting room listening to my ipod and they could have just asked to borrow it. Luckily, I don't live all that far from the dealer, so it wasn't a long drive back.

I just finished installing a PAC uPAC-GM11 which is the PAC equilivent of the PAL and discovered that if you pull the AC controls and then reach behind you can pop out the silver cup which eveals the 2 screws holding the piece around the shifter. Once the 2 screws are out that piece pops out. Then putting the radio and AC bezel back on is no longer a fight. It seems like that silver cup should pop out first, but I could never figure out how.

I called two LA dealers about getting the PAL and both of them had no idea what it was or how long it would take to do. Al and Ed's said they could do it for $250. Seems awfully steep. I'm not interested in getting ripped off but also not into having a dealer do it who has no idea what they're doing. Hmm, Circuit City is looking good right now.
so tell me what is the advantage of having a pal.....but one has to have an actual IPOD...... which i have a sandisk that gives me options on a jobsite that IPOD dont give, bugt if i remember correctly it only works with one of those IPOD overrated units. IMHO
i do just fine pluggin in to the mp3 jack....
but i would like to hear the advantage of one of these

That being said, I just had the PAL installed a the dealer and I'm highly disappointed. I have about 10,000 tracks on my iPod (50GB or so) and I can find any song in less than 6 seconds.
With the PAL and its clunky interface and whatever else it does (basically slow everything down) it can take up to two minutes to get to that same track. It makes no sense to me why the iPod is so fast to scroll through its material and then GM designed something to work with the iPod that takes 10 seconds to forward to the next track, and minutes to find the Artist and then the Album and then the track. It really is ridiculous.
Unless I'm having an odd experience. I'd rather find out that the install is bad or my device is defective!
I think it isn't though......
