Installing XM in a non XM equipped HHR?
Ok, have a question, and I hope somebody has an answer. I just purchased an '08 HHR SS, and it came with the upgraded Pioneer system, which deletes the XM for some stupid reason. There's someone I;ve been talking to that doesn't really want the XM in his HHR. What all would be needed to be taken out of his car and put in mine to have functional XM. Anyone have any idea? Does the XM radio use the same antenna as the On Star? Thanks for any help!

OK, now I'm f'n confused. I have the pioneer 7 speaker system w/6 disc. How do you access XM? My window sticker makes no reference to XM, just to the Pioneer system. When I press the CAT button, all it says is "XM Function", or something close to that.

This thread might help sounds like you need the XM kit https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/audio-video-17/xm-radio-upgrade-cd-am-fm-mp3-cat-button-14231/

Now I'm confused. Chevy's website lists XM as optional on the SS, and says 7 speaker system required for XM, which I have. But I can't access XM. Do you need to sign up before you can see the XM feature?

I have had XM for about 5 years now, and do not like the systems built in to the car. I have one XM Roady II and bought a few spares on Ebay so I could put the antennas and power cords in several different cars (I kept the extra recievers as spares just in case but did not activate them). When we go somewhere I put the Roady II in whichever car we'll be driving and have music with only one subscription price. I have the HHR set up with a mount in the upper dash compartment, with a cable that runs under the trim down to the aux input on the front of the radio. Works great and I can also move the radio to my S-10 or my 54 Chevy when we take one of them. I usually leave it in the HHR so Sharon can use it during the week.
