Mod chip for new Deck????

Mod chip for new Deck????

Hey i was told by a friend that to put a new Cd deck into a new Chev (HHR) you need to get some kind of chip that will allow it to work?? have any of you heard this / is it true??

Never heard of a new chip If you dont care about the chimes working just hard wire it, or you can get a harness that will keep the chimes working. If you have Onstar and want it to work you can not hardwire it in there.

I agree with all dbarber said.

Could he have been thinking about switching to another factory radio? To do that you do have to reflash the car so it recognizes the new unit. But for aftermarket, there's no chip or flash. Just a harness to use tio keep all the warning chimes.
