That thread is about snova putting in a carputer. This thread is about adding an aftermarket XM tuner to an existing factory radio.

Ok now I couldn't be more confused about what I need to get XM on my radio. Do i have to buy a box or could I get something that will hook up behind the stock radio and just hit the button to get the XM channels on the current radio?? I already have the XM SKY2 box for the home theater in my apartment and I want to get XM Radio on this car. If anyone could help and if by chance you have the part numbers from wherever I have to go that would be very helpfull

Are you trying to find the RDS Kit to work with your Terk Tuner ? Crutchfield has it, but does not work with the HHR. There are several kits out there to put XM in GM vechiles with factory radio. Problem is, none work with the HHR. Have not found one, and i searched for a long time. I ended up going with a XM Commander. The first link below will show you how i mounted it, and the second link is where you can buy, if you chose this route, keep in mind you will need a chrysler antenna adapter, which we also have, and will be on our site in a day or two.

Help! I have a brand new 2008 HHR. It has active "onstar" and has the "radio" with the CAT button, which when pushed says "xm feature". Other than a subscription, which I had in my other car, what else do I need??
What is the name of the maker of the radio? Which EXACT tuner (model number) do I need? Where on the radio do I connect it? Any technical (directions) literature available?

Thank You!!!
Alyssa

Panasonic makes all of the HHR factory radios. I think, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I think there may be a different way to do this as well... I did it for my Wife's Suzuki XL7 (which was made in the USA by a GM plant, hense the similar OEM stereos). The stereo is almost identical to my 2009 HHR LT2 in that you press the "CAT" button and it said "XM Feature" just as someone posted in this thread.

What I purchased:

-Terk XMD1000 radio "head unit"
-Antenna for head unit
-Axxess XIA-D01 switch box unit
-XIAH-GM3 Harness cable (This may actually be the only difference between the XL7 and HHR, you would have to call the place that sells the cables to find out what fits the HHR)
-XIAH-XMC Cable

I bought my stuff (with the exception of the XMD1000 as I already had that from my previous car) from http://www.sonicelectronix.com/

It's cool, you take out the radio, unplug the cables from the radio and plug them into the splitter cable (XIAH-GM3), then plug the other splitter ends back into the stereo. Plug the XMD1000 cables in and the XIAH-XMC from the Axxess box to the Terk Box. Run the magnetic XM antenna to the back of your car and plug the other end into the Terk XMD1000 unit and you are all set. The GM stereo now happily plays all your XM channels and displays all the song titles, etc. The CAT button works with XM and if you press the "Band" button, it will switch between AM, FM and XM.

The other cool thing is that you get a second AUX input with the Axxess box. I have that with a simple 1/8" stereo cable for hooking up my portable DVD player's audio out.
