need some help with install

ok guys and gals, i need to know what adapter everyone is using for the hhr to swap in an aftermarket head unit. there is only about 20 of em, from the gm lan to a simple wire connector setup. for info it an 06 with the basic radio setup and no onstar. ill be putting in a pioneer deh p5000ub at least for now, shes already saying she likes the avh 4100 dvd i put in the tahoe and wants a back up camera so who knows...

anyways any help would be great.

The best thing to do is go to crutchfield.com and input your information. This is what I came up with by selecting a 2006 HHR with "no pioneer radio" and "no onstar"...

Looks like you will need this adapter/wire harness:

and this dash kit:

If you purchase your head unit from them, then the adapter is $60 and the dash kit is free. I did not see the p5000ub but looks like they have the p5100ub for $210

Also another good thing about them, they have no sales tax (outside of VA) and free shipping and return. Good luck and post some pics after you are done. I like getting ideas from here.

I agree crutchfield is a great place to start or the metra website. Their address is metraonline.com.. They have a vehicle fit guide like crutchfield also. Its always my first stop when buying a new vehicle.

yea the bad part is metra and crutchfield dont agree with each other, one says i need the 100$ plus adapter one says i need a 12 dollar adapter. thats the reason i posted in here... ive installed pretty much everything ive ever had just wasnt sure which was needed for this car, for some reason most of the shops around here havent done many or even any hhrs...

oh and the 5000ub is discontinued, im putting my old head unit in the wifes car after i updated to a dvd double din unit in my tahoe.

Im a little confused now too. Im going by the Metra website.
They say the gmos-lan-03 if you have the base system, or the gmos-lan-04 if you have the pioneer amp system. Both work with onstar or without.
I think the key is that the lan-04 uses RCA line level connections and the 03 uses speaker level connections. So if I were hooking up to aftermarket amps, the 04 would seem to be the ticket, even if mine came from the factory with the non-amped base system. In that case I would only need the harness to replicate the chimes and signals.

Since you don't have Onstar, probably the simplest way to look at is that the $100 connector kit will let you keep your chimes and the $12 kit won't. As Prod stated, The 03 and 04 LAN setups are there if you have the premium setup with the sub.

Good luck!
