The front speakers you will need the adapters since the cutout is a teardrop shape. I just recently replaced my rear door speakers and I did not need the adapters the only downside I noticed was that I could only put in 3 out of the 4 screws

So the front will need adapters for the 6.5" but not the doors in the rear.

Anyone have a suggestion on speakers before i go through with this on pay day? Or should mini subs up front replacing the Component speaker keeping stock tweeter plus 1500watt 2 way (per pair) Hifonics in the mid doors.

Front and rear are the same, at least on mine, I ran the front speakers in the rear doors for a while. All have the teardrop shape cutouts.
I wouldnt put subs in front, maybe in rear, as subs are less directional. I may at some point do that, mount 8" shallow subs or midbass in rear doors.

You have an SS and probably have the upgraded Pioneer system which has separate rings and speakers.

Yeah 6.5" subs in the front doors would not sound very good playing up in the vocal range which is around 160hz all the way to 3-4k where.

Now 8" midbasses in the front doors playing 50-200hz sound really good mated up with 3" midranges playing from 200hz to 6.3k hz and tweets playing the rest up in the pillars . I have no more rear speakers other then my single 8" sub in the factory location. But that sub is in a fiberglass box.

all of em finally bit the big one, so i just ripped the 6.5" from the rear of the explorer and threw into her car so it would have some sound till other speakers got here.
Ordered:
HiFonics 750w ea 50rms ea 6.5" x4
Front Fit Kit
no wire adapters, just snipped head off and crimped new wires.

The rear speakers had holes in them, rubber and poly.

While the car is down and out cause of motor issues.. im still working on all the other things so when the motor is in itll be ready to fire up... so after the speakers decided a cheap full dual din was needed so i could blue tooth my phone..

so after research and everyone great help i ordered a fit kit and the proper plug and play, along with antenna adapter and FM booster..

HOWEVER install a true dual din is a PITA just fyi... i had to modify the area to make it fit... Some cutting came into play

the wiring harness i ended up getting to retain the power and ding was plug and play, you had to still wire it to the head unit though, after that it was plug n play to the car

Hey thanks for all the help on this post, it made everything go smooth. The cd player junked out while it sat for years. So when we brought it back to life, it got a double din all in one with gps and rear camera..

Forum has been super helpful! Also we left the factory tweeters plugged in with the speakers we installed, now if i can just find the rear factory sub box, so there will be a tad of bass even thought of 6x9s in the rear door.
